Vehicle Description Another beautiful Basil Classicthis 1977 Pontiac Can Am with only 27,310 miles has been handpicked and meets Joe Basil's standards of excellence and tradition of fine automobiles since 1951.
This vehicle is truly one of a kind and one of the coolest and rarest Can Ams that you will find! Buy with confidence! This 1977 Can Am is one of only 1,133 produced! GM intended to build 5,000 units, but production came to a halt after completing the 1,133rd vehicle.
When the cars were finished at the factory, they would then be sent out to Motortown Corp.
to complete them, by installing the duckbill spoiler, hood scoop, and stripe package.
Special tooling was required for the specialty items such as the duckbill spoiler.
The tooling for the spoilers broke beyond repair, and that is when production for the 1977 Can Am came to an end The Can Am was exclusively available in Cameo White with orange, yellow, and red stripes.
There were a few interior color options, and this one has been optioned with a red leather bucket interior, that goes great with the exterior! Along with the specialty spoiler, stripes, and the hood scoop straight from the Trans Am, the Can Ams also have louvered rear windows, and white rally II wheels to match the paint! Under the hood is the W72 400ci motor producing 200hp and 325lb ft of torque, paired with a Turbo- Hydromatic automatic transmission! This is a one owner car, and it is as original as it gets! The owner purchased this vehicle new from Roberts Pontiac in West Virginia 46-year ownership! Roberts Pontiac was also his place of work, where he was a PDI (Pre delivery inspection) Technician at the time! The documentation on this car is outstanding! These documents include the original build sheet, Can Am ordering procedure form, purchase agreement from Roberts Pontiac, new vehicle inspection procedure form, and the SteelShield underbody protection form, all dating back to May of 1977! Also included is manufactures literature such as the operating instructions owner's manual, general information owner's manual, BF Goodrich space saver spare tire pamphlet with warranty information and operation/ jacking instructions, customer information booklet, maintenance schedule booklet, and Uniroyal tire warranty pamphlet! It doesn't stop there There are also original Can Am advertisements, some framed and some unframed, along with an excerpt from Hot Rod magazine on the 77 Cam Am! Take a look towards the end of the photo gallery to see all of these documents yourself! Truly impressive Where do you find a car with documentation like this!! The exterior is of course finished in Cameo white with the red, yellow, and orange stipe kit, and is in great shape especially considering the age and originality! Also included is an extra set of Can Am lettering decals, which can be seen in the photo gallery! The red leather bucket interior is nearly as good as new! Take a look at everything from the door panels to the seats, dashboard, headliner, steering wheel, and center console super super clean and all original! The mileage (27,310) matches the condition!! This car makes for a great ride with its radial tuned suspension, power steering, and power front disk brakes! The trunk and engine bay are also super clean! The trunk is still fitted with the spare tire and equipment, along with the trunk mat! The engine bay housing the 400ci V8 looks great and stands out with that shaker hood scoop, and blue engine paint The condition matches the milage! You can tell this vehicle has been well cared for and properly maintained by its previous owner! The undercarriage is clean and very solid as well, you can tell it hasn't been driven during poor winter weather conditions!
